FPD at 20 Year Mark

Farrier Product Distribution is nearing the end of year 20 of its service to the farrier industry.  Founded in 1990 in Shelbyville, Kentucky, FPD has become the leading wholesale distributor in the industry by focusing on our customers and products and brands that offer value and performance to the professional market.

The belief in 1990, as it is now, was the market would support companies that worked hard to provide their customers with service and intangibles that can’t be found in many segments of the business world any longer.  The number one focus was on customer relations, developing an understanding of who our customers are and what their needs are, then working diligently to fill those needs.  That focus has carried us for 20 years, and will continue to be the driving force for the company.

We have been fortunate to secure relationships with manufacturers like the Kerckhaert Horseshoe Company, Bellota Rasps, Bloom Forge, Vector Nails and many other companies that share in our belief that the market wants consistent quality, innovation and reliability in the products it uses.  And that you can’t run over the customer in your haste to grow- but rather you need to work with the customer so that all can share in the benefits of what should be considered a “joint venture.”  If one party to the relationship does well, then all will do well.

Kerckhaert, in particular, recognized the need to develop products for the North American market and proceeded to move quickly to bring their production into line with the demands of the market.  Today, they rank at the top of the market in producing products that are innovative, yet grounded in the traditions of the farrier craft.  Kerckhaert understands the horse’s hoof has changed very little since they began producing shoes in 1906 - and their common sense approach to shapes, steel sections and detail are what separates them from the pack.
