American or European?

American or European? The market often references City heads as well as the Slim, Combo, Regular and Race nails as “American style” nails. They usually have a flat back and a bevel on the inside of the nail head. The trademark is always placed on the bevel side to help with correct driving of the nails. They are typically more rectangular than the E or European style head. European nail heads have a nearly square head with symmetrical bevels – no flat back on the head. Both nail styles have a bevel at the point of the nail shank that causes the nail to come out of the hoof wall. Failure to drive the nails with this bevel properly positioned can cause injury to the sensitive areas of the hoof. Nails are started in the insensitive tissue of the “white line” and then come out through the wall.
